Genesis 2:24
Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
Marriage is such a wonderful relationship…at least that is what God intends for it to be. I find that so many people who get married do not have clue what it takes to have a real relationship that each person can be blessed with. It is interesting that people can prepare for years for a certain job and calling. By this I mean we go through the school years, then to college, then to graduate school just to get to the place where we have some kind of an idea what we are doing. Then we go to seminars, conferences, read books and articles, and allow ourselves to be mentored by those who know what they are doing and we think nothing of it! But, when it come to marriage we think that we can walk into a church, have some nice music, the preacher says a few nice things, say I do walk out of the church and then we are ready to go! Wrong-Ten times over!!!
In the verse mentioned from the book of Genesis we find three important constructs to a great marriage. These things are continual and need to be sought every day of our married lives. First we are to leave! Yes that is talking about breaking the strings to mom and dad’s house. Couples need to develop their home. Second, we are to join. This speaks of the commitments we need to make to our spouses and then we are to see those commitments through to completion or until death do us part. Third, we are to weave. By this it means that the couple learns and develops the art of intimacy on every level. This refers to the physical, emotional, experiential, and all the other levels of intimacy.
